We want money—lots of it—in the flesh. Most humans, including many Christians, fall prey to this lust. With the power of the Spirit, we can rise above this lust and soar like eagles, run and not get weary, and walk and not faint. We rise not to serve the flesh further, but to be servants of God to do his biddings of love and restorative justice, a.k.a. God’s requirements for righteousness.
God has a general calling for all of us to for righteousness. There are numerous ways to express it and that’s why we need to listen to God regularly and intentionally. God loves to love us and love through us but in the flesh we love to love ourselves. We need to set aside this pervasive self-love, which is the biggest obstacle to our receipt of God’s love and for us to be a conduit of his love for other. When we set aside self-love, we receive the blessing of God’s love for ourselves and our spheres of influence are also blessed with the overflowing love of God through our words and deeds.
All this has to start with listening to God, humbly, intentionally, and regularly. God as our loving Parent loves to love us and love others through us. Am I listening and obeying?
